Further information on our Quality Assurance and standards

The Management System certified to ISO9001 provides the resources for the Company’s dedicated policy of efficiency and by the use of trained staff, assessing products and processes to maximise efficiency and quality in an endeavour to achieve zero defects to our customers.

Industrial Rubber works closely with their suppliers to ensure that all the preparations used for manufacturing the finished products contain none of the REACH Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) that appear in the ‘Candidate List’.

The list is currently updated twice a year and if a new SVHC substance should appear and be found to be present in our preparations, Industrial Rubber will contact our customers within 45 days and agree a plan of action for substituting the ingredients and obtaining re-approval of the finished part.

What is REACH?

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) is the system for controlling chemicals in Europe and became law in the UK on 1st June 2007

What is SVHC?

In general terms, SVHC are substances that have hazards with serious consequences, e.g. they cause cancer, or they have other hazardous properties and/ or remain in the environment for a long time with their amounts in animals gradually building up

The criteria in REACH, Article 57 for these SVHC are:

  • Substances meeting the criteria for classification as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR) category 1A or !B in accordance with regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (the CLP regulation)
  • Substances which are persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic (PBT) in accordance with the criteria set out in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation
  • Substances which are very persistent and very bio-accumulative (vPvB) in accordance with the criteria set out in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation
  • Substances giving rise to an equivalent level of concern to substances meeting the above criteria. Such substances may have endocrine, disrupting properties or have properties, that although not meeting the criteria for being a CMR, PBT or vPvB there is scientific evidence of probable serious effects to human health or the environment. Such substances will be identified on a case-by-case basis

Industrial Rubber works closely with their Suppliers to ensure that RoHS requirements are monitored to ensure that all products supplied remain compliant.

Customers will be informed of the adverse changes and a plan of action agreed.

What is RoHS?

The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (2015/863) aims to prevent hazardous substances from entering the production process and thereby keep them out of the waste stream

Guidance:

Manufactures, authorised representatives, importers and distributors of electrical equipment within the scope of RoHS need to comply with the directive. Certain requirements include:

  • Notifying market surveillance authorities
  • Informing the supply chain
  • Taking remedial action
